News (23.03.2014) Team Astromega ready for test with Team China in new Acceleration championship

After a successful four-year partnership between Team Astromega and Team China in the former A1GP championship the two will link up again to do a test drive ahead of the newly founded Acceleration championship. Acceleration plans 10 European races in 2014 and will use the slightly modified Lola A1GP cars it recently purchased. The test in Valencia, on the Ricardo Tormo circuit, will take place on Wednesday the 26thand Thursday the 27th of March. Team Astromega will be responsible for running the Team China car during both test days.
Werner Gillis, team principal: ‘After the old A1GP championship stopped we kept communicating and advising the people responsible for motorsports in China. So basically we were the first to be asked to run their car during the upcoming test and we accepted this challenge. We are still talking to both Chinese and international drivers because in contrast to the former A1GP championship the driver of the Team China car doesn’t necessarily need to be Chinese.’

The Belgian Team Astromega, founded by Mikke Van Hool, is well known for their successes in the former F3000 championship with drivers like Fernando Alonso and Gonzalo Rodriguez. More recently they competed in Superleague Formula in 2008 with Britain’s Craig Dolby, who had previously won the Belgian Formula Renault championship for the team.

Team Astromega nowadays focuses its attention and know-how on young drivers willing to start a career or participate in series at the level of Formula Renault 2.0 and F3.

Team Astromega chooses to get the best out of it’s more than 15 years of experience in international formula racing in F3000, A1 and Superleague as well as Formula Renault and F3, by transferring it onto upcoming drivers.
