A1GP Team China - 09.10.2008
Race Report Chengdu 08-09 November
After a difficult start to the season (due to late
arrival of some of the new equipment) for most of the teams at the first
round at Zandvoort a couple of weeks ago (4-5 Oct.) the A1 teams headed
headed out to China for what was generally deemed to be the real start
to the '08-'09 season.
SPRINT RACE
After a rather difficult time in free practice and qualifying (see
seperate report in the 'News'-section), Ho Pin Tung had to start from
P18 in the Sprint Race. We know from previous seasons that overtaking in
this short sprint race with no pit stops is very difficult indeed.
With on top a spin by Ho Pin on lap 4 and a car set-up which was far
from ideal, we finished the race in P17.
FEATURE RACE
Quite e few changes were made on the set-up of the car, with immediate
result. After the first (very quick) pit stop A1 Team China had moved up
to P11 from P17 on the grid. By the time of the seoond compulsory pit
stops we had even moved up to P9. Unfortunately, a broken airline made
for a very slow pit stop and caused us to loose several places,
finishing the race in P12.
However, Ho Pin managed to set the 6th fastest lap in the race which
clearly indicates the team and driver are getting to grips with the car
and so we are hopeful and fully determined to get a good result in 2
weeks at the next round in Malaysia (22-23 Nov.) |
