SUPERLEAGUE FORMULA - 30.09.2008 DOLBY STEREO A truly amazing perfomance by Craig Dolby for RSC Anderlecht. FREE PRACTICE Neither of our drivers had been to the Nurburgring before. But in this day and age of Playstation and Youtube this tends to be less of a problem than in the old days. Unfortunately Tuka wasn't feeling too well after an exhausting flight from Brazil. Craig seemed to be feeling pretty good as he was straight away right on the pace on this new track. QUALIFYING Both driver managed to get through to the quarter finals with a last lap special effort. Craig ended up in P2 with Tuka in P4, both in Group B which was deemed to be the stronger of the 2 groups. Unfortunately the team had misinterpretated the rules regarding the use of tires throughout the qualifying sessions and so we didn't have new tires ready for the quarters whereas the other teams did. Not unexpectedly we were eliminated in the quarter finals. Nevertheless Craig was still P5 on the grid with the best time of the losers in the quarters. Tuka was P8. RACE 1 With an absolutely brilliant move into Turn One, Craig moved from P5 into P3! The leading trio consisting of former F1-drivers Doornbos (AC Milan) and Pizzonia (Corinthians) was able to pull away from the rest of the field. When the pit window opened Craig was right with Antonio Pizzonia. Thanks to a good pit stop at the right time we managed to get ahead of Corinthians. Craig continued to push and was a little faster that AC Milan on his way to a fantastic P2, especially considering the total lack of pre-season testing and the limited number of laps done at Donington. For Tuka things weren't going too well. Having been penalised after some issues on Saturday, Tuka had to start P18. The race was over quickly when Tuka spun off in lap 2. RACE 2 For this race Craig was back in P16 as per the rules with Tuka in P2 after his early retirement in Race 1. By the end of lap 1 Tuka was in P3 but an overoptimistic move by Olympiakos meant another early retirement for Tuka. This is really a weekend to forget for Tuka . Craig made another brilliant start and came through P11 after the first lap. Another quick pit stop at the right time moved us up several more places. A couple of retirements moved us up to P3 when the safety car came out with some 10 laps to go. When the race was back on race leader Toccacelo (AS Roma) slowed down with apparently a mechanical problem which moved Craig up into P2. There was no more time to launch a serious attack on PSV in P1 but P2 was anyway already an unbelievable result. With the next race at Zolder this result is even more than we all (including RSC Anderlecht) had been hoping for. And Craig Dolby showed himself to the rest of the motorsport world!!! See you at Zolder on 4-5 October! |
