A1 GRAND PRIX - 21.01.2008
Team China: Round 5 - Taupo (New-Zealand)

A WEEKEND TO FORGET

FREE PRACTICE

Free practice on Friday afternoon wasn't a success... The set-up of the car didn't initially seem to suit the circuit as the track -although dry- had very little grip. On top of this Frankie had only arrived the night before from Beijing and so he was suffering from jet lag. The result was a rather disastrous P21 out of 22.

On Saturday morning both driver and car were in much better shape reulting in P5!

QUALIFYING

In all 4 runs Frankie was rather mystiriously off the pace rsulting in P16 for the Sprint race and P18 for the Feature race.

SPRINT RACE

It seemed the "mystery" from qualifying was resolved as Frankie was putting in lap times amongst the quickest cars on the track but unfortunately couldn't get any higher up the order than P14 as overtaking at Taupo is very difficult.

FEATURE RACE

Having had to start that far on the grid it was a really great achievement by both driver and team to be running P7 after the compulsory pit-stops. But then, Frankie made a small mistake and spun off the circuit. Again very unfortunate as Team China was clearly again one of the quickest cars out there and this combined with 2 very good pit stops made it possible to get as high up as P7.

But alas, it was not to be and no points this weekend.

Nevertheless the team can go to Australia still with a lot of confidence to do well and we are still aiming for a podium finish.
