A1 GRAND PRIX - 06.02.2007
Team China: Podium finish in Australia
In only his third ever race for the team, Ho Pin Tung finished 3rd in the feature race at Eastern Creek, Sydny, Australia at the weekend.
This was Ho Pin's third race only for the team, having substituted for Frankie Cheng at the Grand Prix of Indonesia and New Zealand.
After an already encouraging 9th place in the feature race in New Zealand a fortnight ago, things came together nicely in Australia.
Qualifying
With the driver and team gelling better and better another great qualifying position for Team China was obtained with P6 in the final standings. After the 2 top 5 qualifying results of Frankie Cheng at Czech Republic and Malaysia this was another performance in which Team Astromega takes pride.
Sprint race
After a not too eventful sprint race we finished where we started, in P6.
Feature race
The start was not too good with Ho Pin falling back to P8. On lap 2 the safety car had to come out and had to stay out longer than expected after another incident on the track. This meant that quite a few laps were run behind the safety car and so the team decided to go for a different strategy. As most teams come in as soon as the pit-stop window opens on lap 10, we decided to stay out longer to make use of the tires which would not have suffered that much yet . After our mandatory pit-stop Ho Pin rejoined in P6 and with new tires later in the race (less fuel) he set about overtaking the cars in front of him and worked himself up to P3. The last car to be overtaken was Team Holland which Ho Pin did in great style at the first corner.
